I’m single.

Friday, July 31st, 2009

For the weekend that is.
My wife has left me to attend RollerCon in Las Vegas where she will be gambling, sitting by the pool, drinking cocktails, and picking up chicks learning lots about how to be a better derby player. I’m excited for her, especially since she gets to go somewhere cooler than Portland! The other day it was either 105, 107, 109, or 111. No one really knows but there was grand speculation on exactly how hot it was. Really I don’t think it makes any difference once the temperature gets passed, oh, say 102, but people loved talking about it. Today it’s a cool and breezy 90 degrees and I am home for the weekend. All Alone.
It’s a bittersweet thing. On one hand, I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to do, I can watch whatever I want on television, not make the bed, throw towels on the floor, eat ice cream all day or really just go crazy if I feel like it.
On the other hand, I miss her and I get lonely and whiney!
One thing I will be doing is appearing on Strange Love Live tonight at 10 pm (pacific time) where I will be talking about BlogHer09 with Melissa Lion. For the After Hours program it will just be me, (memememe) talking about (memememe) and other things. I have a feeling that the conversation may turn to roller derby and the Rose City Rollers but we’ll see what Cami Kaos has in mind for me! Do you know Cami Kaos? She’s my latest Blog Crush (not to be confused with my Derby Crush, who is someone different.) Cami is so beautiful and sexy and I feel all fluttery when I’m around her. Hopefully tonight she’ll give me a cocktail so I’m not so nervous; maybe a Tiki Drink with a Very Long Straw! I guess everyone will have to watch and see!
In the meantime, I do have that review to do for Eden Fantasys and I haven’t yet opened the product that needs to be reviewed. That could pass the time I suppose . . .

TLL Adult Review: Nina Hartley’s Guide to Stripping for your Partner

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Hot:

SexToys was kind enough to allow me to review Nina Hartley’s Guide to Stripping for your Partner. Let me just say that as much as I love Nina Hartley, I hate Evan Stone more. I may be hated for announcing this, but it’s the way I feel. There are occasions where I think he’s kind of funny, but mostly I think he’s frankly scary and Fabio-ish. But I saw this movie and I thought, hey, you know, why not? It’s about stripping for your partner. (Most) strippers have sexy moves, I wanna work on my moves, let’s give it a shot. I really like Nina Hartley. She’s smart and pretty and charismatic, and very enjoyable to watch. In the beginning, she and a very pretty young lady, Justine, are sitting in lingerie talking about stripping, doing the introduction, and I really wanted to watch them strip together, but alas they did not. This video has a decidedly heterosexual format, which is to be expected, but is disappointing nonetheless.
In the DVD, Nina strips for Marco Banderas in the first scene, and then Evan Stone strips for Marie Luv. By the way, in case you, like me, were unaware, it seems that all these guide films degenerate into sex in the end. I don’t know why I was surprised by this, really. The problem is, I never seem to like mainstream male porn stars in porn flicks. I’ll watch alt and queer guys go to town any day of the week, but… meh.
Evan Stone was the captain guy in Pirates XXX. I didn’t like him there. He was in something else I was unfortunate enough to see. I didn’t like him there, either. He’s in Space Nuts, a spoof of Space Balls, and I didn’t like him there (though I begrudgingly admit he was kinda funny). I noticed him as Kirk on the cover of Hustler’s This Ain’t Star Trek, and I vomited in my mouth a little. (I AM A TREKKIE AND THIS IS BLASPHEMY OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE! Do you hear me, Hustler!?) And now, he’s HERE. STRIPPING. In horrible multi-colored underpants with a sewn in bit to cradle his junk, so that it dangles and stuff. And he looks like a wannabe Tarzan. And… and… he takes off those underpants… oh, God, I’ll never be okay again. I could go on for days about the many many reasons I don’t like Evan Stone, but I’m stopping myself right now.
The video is supposed to be instructional. I found it to be so, for maybe twenty minutes or so, while Nina Hartley was talking and demonstrating stripping. She is very very sexy and her dancing and talking is quite helpful. She talks about choosing music that makes you want to dance, what kind of things to wear and how to layer for a successful reveal. It’s handy stuff. I didn’t like her music, though, and I wish she had had some kind of list of good tracks, or something along those lines. I really enjoyed watching her, and it was informative.
Then it turned into sex, and that was not so instructional. However it was acrobatic and impressive. Marco held her upside down on a chair for 69, which honestly gets some bonus points. The part where Evan Stone dances is not instructional either, but it’s because he doesn’t seem to be capable of speech, so you just have to watch him rip off his velcro pants and continue the trainwreck that is him getting naked. Don’t even start me on the horror that is Marie Luv rubbing real live money on Evan’s naked penis. I mean… honestly? I may have Evan Stone cock-money in my wallet? I think I threw up again in my mouth.
So, there’s some instruction which is good, but minimal, and if you’re a guy wanting to learn to strip there’s no instruction for you and you get subjected to Evan Stone. Nina Hartley is really so charming, but Evan Stone is so… just… himself, that I’ve got to say this isn’t worth it for me. I wanted way more instruction, maybe a couple of different women showing different techniques. Maybe they could show their techniques to each other. Maybe I could be in the video, and they could give me lap dances. Maybe there’d be special features where I get to erase Evan Stone from existence. All of these would make the movie way better.
Sorry, Nina. I gotta reject this. If you’re out there, though, and want to keep teaching me to strip, drop me an email.    Everyone else, wash your hands after you handle money. You never know.

TLL Adult Review: Flexi Felix

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Hot:

Ohmygod, I really like the Flexi Felix (from Babeland). I want to put that right front and center. What is it? It’s anal beads that looks like a little caterpillar. It’s ADORABLE. Don’t tell me it’s too weird looking to use, because really, we can’t take sex too seriously. I love it, the beads are very narrow (1 inch max!) and easy to use. The eyes make handy finger holds. I opened up the sturdy Fun Factory box, and as the sample lube and informational pamphelets fell out, the first thing I noticed was how flexible it is. This should be a no brainer given the name, but the Flexi Felix is really really flexible. It’s ridiculously nice, 100% silicone and so easy to clean in the sink with soap, or it can be boiled. It’s awesome.
I’ll admit it openly, I really love the idea of anal play buy unfortunately my ass sometimes doesn’t want to cooperate. I’m working on finding things that work for me, and ideally want a variety of things so I can work myself up to larger things, but this is the absolute best beginner toy I’ve ever found. This is great for me for a day when I really want something in my ass that isn’t a challenge, that just slips in and is comfortable, stimulating and stays in. And it does stay in.
I really cannot say enough about the Flexi Felix. It feels good pushing it in, it feels good pulling it out. It’s a little bit of a challenge getting it in, though, because it’s so flexible. Here’s an tip on that front, however. I found out that if I lay on my side with my top leg pulled up high, I can let the body of Felix rest on the lower leg’s inner thigh so I’m not fighting to hold it and push it in. If that makes sense.
The Flexi Felix comes with Fun Factory’s own Toy Fluid, a water based lube, but once that had run out (after round one) I grabbed my Maximus waterbased lube, which is a wonderful anal lube. Thick and stays where you put it, and most importantly, stays slick. Perfect with Felix. Buy one here.Similar Posts:

Enough already - what’s next, Buchanan-ism in the Blade?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Responding to a Washington Blade query about whether there would ever be a gay SCOTUS justice, someone named Ron Krise declared:
One of your readers said the country was run by “old white men” — but just where is the proof of that? We have a black president, a black attorney general, a female secretary of state and many cabinet chiefs or senior posts are filled by non-white males. Whites are now the minority in four states, including California. In 20 years, 17 states will be minority white. Most big city mayors are non-white male.
As a gay male, even I know that those so-called “old white men” (read: straight) have passed many laws that have benefited minority groups. Ask yourself, can you honestly see a Supreme Court totally black, female and Hispanic? I shudder at the thought. What’s next? A chairman of the Joint Chiefs bringing his sheep to work? A few cross-dressing senators on the floor filibustering? A group of drag queen representatives in the House? A blind 747 pilot? A deaf music critic? Lifeguards who cannot swim?
Why not, isn’t it their human/civil right?  …  The last real generation of whites are lying beneath the sands of Iwo Jima and Normandy. Now, most are pink with yellow stripes running down their backs.
Rome tried multiculturalism and look what happened to them. It’s only a matter of time.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the media melange that saw fit to (attempt to) legitimize a gay prostitute who had made a (fake) name for himself by trying to pass as a journalist would run a letter like this.
Yet - I acually am still surprised…
and thoroughly disgusted.

Positively The Most Confusing Woman I Know

Friday, July 31st, 2009

I’m sixteen years old; I grew up in an ultra conservative household, so it wasn’t until about two years ago that I finally allowed myself to admit that I might like girls. Of course, that eventually meant I came out. My first girlfriend and I dated for three months. She began as my best friend, we dated, etc. But then, after those three months, she showed signs of having feelings for someone else. I asked her, she was honest, so I ended it. The ironic thing is, the girl she had feelings for, she ended up with me. It was incredibly strange, but the first time we talked, we talked for hours, about everything. Then we began hanging out, and within a week we were together. I was completely enchanted by her; she was beautiful, she was genuine, and she was the most fun person to be around. Things were going magnificently, I couldn’t ask for more, then around my birthday, she starts acting a little strange. I dig until she answers me, and she tells me that “she can’t let herself be happy.”
I did all I could, but to no avail. I tried desperately to win her back, but I couldn’t, until I showed interest in someone else. She then contacted me again and we began talking, but we still went through phases of stupid fights over nothing, all because she kept saying that because of her past, she couldn’t let herself be happy with me. Then, I finally got a new girlfriend. Things were great, my new girl and I talked at every opportunity. Then, my ex pops back in my life. She has the audacity to say that I’m emotionless, so I’m completely flabbergasted. She subtly made me miss her more than anything, so I ended it with my new girlfriend.
Now she’s at Basic Training for the National Guard, so I haven’t talked to her in a while, but she sends me letters and they sometimes give her phone back, and she sent me a picture text that said “Miss you, boo.” She does the sweetest things when we’re together, or almost together, but my only problem is that I don’t know how long it will last… Can anyone tell me what the hell is going through her head? I need your help more than anything. :/

Legislator of the Day: Dutch Ruppersberger

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Today's LEGISLATOR OF THE DAY
* * * drum roll * * *
C. A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger (MD-D-02)
Rep. Ruppersberger is from a heavily Democratic district, and has run substantially without opposition.  Lucky him!  But he abstained on hate crimes bills in 07 and 09, though he voted yes on ENDA in 2007.  However, his office indicated in early July that he was still undecided on HR 3017.
C'mon, tell Dutch to give some luv to the LGBT community on HR 3017 from his safe Democratic seat.  A call is better than an email, but do something, anything.

Marriage Recognized in D.C.? Act Now for Benefits

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Here’s a little piece of advice for families living in Washington, D.C.: The city recently passed laws recognizing same-sex couples who were married or legally partnered in a “substantially similar” way outside the District. HRC warns people, though that if you are already hitched and want to cover your spouse or partner through your employer’s insurance plan, you may need to act quickly. Many employers’ plans require you to make changes to your enrollment within 30 days of when the laws went into effect.
The marriage recognition law went into effect July 6, 2009.  The partnership recognition law went into effect July 20, 2009.
If you are not yet hitched elsewhere, you will have 30 days from your happy date to make the changes.

Online Voter Registration Reaches Some Citizens, but Won’t Close the Electoral Gap

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Cross-posted at Project Vote's Voting Matters Blog.
Access to voter registration continues to be an issue in the U.S. where only 71 percent of the voting eligible population is registered to vote. With young, low income, and minority citizens lagging behind in voter registration and participation, this fraction of registered voters only represents a skewed picture of the American people.

In an effort to make voter registration more accessible, several states have joined Arizona and Washington this year by passing laws to provide certain citizens the convenience of registering to vote with the click of a mouse. Colorado, Indiana, Louisiana, Oregon, and Utah are among the states that recently enacted such laws while Kansas has just made voter registration accessible online to eligible citizens in the state, according to the Associated Press this week. However, a new memo by Project Vote consultants Jody Herman and Doug Hess finds that, while online voter registration is a “welcome new convenience,” its impact will most likely be limited in reducing the tremendous demographic disparities that currently exist in the electorate.
Using Nielsan and Census data, the report examines the limitations - and benefits - of online voter registration by describing the U.S. households that do not have internet access and comparing the findings to voter registration rates in those households based on race/ethnicity, age, educational attainment, and income.
“In most cases, the demographic groups that are already less likely to be registered are also the least likely to have internet access in the home,” Herman wrote. Among these groups are low income citizens, those without high school degrees, and Latinos, rendering online voter registration less effective for the very people who need access to the electoral process most. According to the memo:

*    Low income households are not only less likely to have internet access (41%), they are also least likely to be registered to vote, compared to other income brackets (65%).
*    Educational attainment appears to have an affect on access to both voter registration and internet. Just 36% percent of those without high school diploma have internet access - 41 percentage points lower than the national average. Similarly, this group registers to vote at a rate that is 21 percentage points lower than the national average (50%).
*    Black and Latino households are less likely to have access to the internet, with only 63% of households in each group. However, Latinos are disproportionately underrepresented in the electorate, registering at 12 percentage points lower than the national average.

“An additional problem is that online voter registration systems that require an online registrant to have an existing signature in a state database–such as in a driver's license database and/or state voter registration database-will further limit the accessibility of an online voter registration system to disadvantaged groups,” according to the report. (A 2007 study on voter ID accessibility in Indiana exemplifies this issue, as voters with only high school education, as well as low-income and minority citizens, were found to be less likely to posses identification required, in this case, to vote.)
While online registration seems to disproportionately reach mostly those who are already overrepresented in the electorate, it may open doors for one group that is notoriously plagued with voter access and participation issues: Youth. Citizens ages 18 to 34 register to vote at a rate of 10 percentage points behind the electorate as a whole. However, young people are most likely to have internet access, with 88 percent of younger households connected to the Web. This may prove beneficial in incorporating America's future decision makers in the electorate.
